A common obstacle faced by the public in assessing conservation impacts around them is the difficulty in accessing high quality, peer-reviewed satellite-derived information or maps developed by researchers. To help alleviate this issue, the WWF presents GLOBIL (globil.panda.org) – WWF’s Global Observation and Biodiversity Information Portal, their institutional ArcGIS online account, which will post geo-spatial data for the public and internal use free of cost. They will provide a web service of your data with:
- full metadata, credits, attributes, links to organization, article etc…
- view data online in any web mapping interface
- query attributes or view only - you decide what level you want
- view data in a desktop environment like arcMap or Q-GIS
- full online metadata and credits (where the name of your organization automatically appears on any map that uses the data)
- data available for download if you wish to provide that
- legal info and use according to your specifications
- WWF takes no responsibility for the data, we are only providing it in an online interface for people to access and use
For this they request that datasets at national or regional, that have been validated or peer-reviewed, follow minimum standards for accuracy and have well explained methods. They are primarily interested in satellite derived information, official datasets, and data relevant for biodiversity issues, conservation, forestry. If you are interested in promoting your data and putting it out there for people to use (non-commercially of course) then please contact Aurélie Shapiro ([email protected]) with the following information:
- Type of dataset:
- Extent, resolution If applicable:
- Name, contact information organization:
- If/how the data were validated:

- How you want your data shared (visualization only, download etc..):
