Three Embassy Science Fellows Program: Colombo, Kathmandu, Almay

(U) Embassy Kathmandu proposes to host a water resources expert as an Embassy Science Fellow (ESF) to assist in promoting water security in South Asia and to support engagement with governmental and scientific leaders in Nepal. The ESF will work with the Embassy and the Regional Environment, Science, Technology and Health Office (REO) to coordinate with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD, an intergovernmental, regional organization with its secretariat in Kathmandu) and the World Bank’s South Asia Water Initiative (SAWI), and to help guide research and transboundary programs promoting regional water security. Embassy Kathmandu’s preferred fellowship length is for three months, potentially divided among several trips of two to four weeks duration each, within a time frame of June 2014 to July 2015. Ideal fellows will have a strong background in water resources research and policy analysis and be deeply familiar with U.S. policies to promote water security in South Asia. A security clearance of Secret is preferred to facilitate access to the Embassy and to classified information.
